Hiroshima 15th,
Japan 2017-2018

Before dawn, I enter Kokura station and take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima. I pay special attention to the signs in the floor, I have a ticket booked and I want to make sure to get into the right cart.

I walk in direction to the Peace Memorial Park from Hiroshima station. In my way to the park, I find a big figure of the Hiroshima Carps, the local baseball team. After a pleasant stroll, I arrive to my destination and enter the Peace Memorial Museum.

In my previous visit to the city in 2015. I was not able to visit the museum. It fits its description perfectly, it is a memorial of the atrocities of the atomic attack to inspire future peace.

Outside the museum, I take a closer look to the Atomic Bomb Dome. I have seen the remains of the building in many pictures and documentaries thru the years. This is the second time that I am in front of it and still manages to impress with its skeletal presence, memory of a horrific event.

I cannot recommend enough a visit to the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. It is not only a museum with interesting art, but it also hosts a beautiful Japanese garden.

I like to visit museums when I travel. It is not just for the museum themselves but it is a good excuse to visit many different locations in the city. I walk to the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, but I do not even enter. I just admire some sculptures that can be found outside. I continue my walking afterwards.

I decide to climb to the top a close by hill. It is not easy task after such a long day, but I am rewarded by the sense of achievement and, as an extra, some fantastic views of the city. As the day is ending, I go back to the hotel.
