Kyoto 2nd,
Japan 2017-2018

A must visit in Kyoto is  Fushimi Inari Shrine. Well known for its myriad of red torii gates that, one after the other, mark the path up to the top. For me it is the fox mountain. Just one inspiration, just one theme for so many sculptures. All similar but none the same. I enjoy watching this challenge to human creativity.

When you find one, look for its companion. Eroded by time and the elements they slowly break apart. But if you look carefully you can almost always still find the remains the missing one.

After a hike up and down the mountain, I stop a moment to get a snack.

As I leave the shrine and get farther and farther the streets get less crowded. I walk all the way up to my hotel.
